AC Schnitzer aerodynamic components reflect the lines of the respective base vehicle, subtly reinforcing them and giving the body exciting new contours. At the same time, they also have a real impact: they increase downforce on the front and/or rear axle, thus providing additional roadholding. Material: Polyurethane (PUR for short or also known colloquially as PU) Due to its excellent mechanical properties, the use of PUR (polyurethane) is particularly suitable in areas that require high wear resistance, such as high-quality automotive engineering. PUR is easily mouldable, very dimensionally stable, and - compared to other plastics - very lightweight. It is particularly easy to paint (even multiple times if necessary). Polyurethane is created through a chemical reaction that occurs immediately before the material is processed. Polyol and isocyanate react to form polyurethane in a mixing head. PUR achieves its positive product properties, among other things, through processing using the "R-RIM" (Reinforced-Reaction Injection Moulding) technique. In this technique, the highly reactive PUR components are filled with short fibres, mixed under high pressure, and processed using reaction injection moulding. Typically, the reaction mixture from the mixing head and sprue is poured into a closed aluminium or epoxy resin Mold, where it cures to form the moulded part. The R-RIM technique produces particularly stable parts with high tear and impact strength, all while maintaining low weight. The produced aerodynamic components are deburred, sanded, and - as a special service from AC Schnitzer and to simplify handling for the customer - partially primed. Once primed, AC Schnitzer aerodynamic components can be painted in any imaginable colour by the paint shop of their choice on-site. Creative Design PUR, ASA, or carbon: at AC Schnitzer, all designs come from a true Italian artist: Michele Viandante; he has been AC Schnitzer's Head Designer for many years. Of course, his designs aren't just beautiful; they also have to stand the test of time: for example, many parts are tested for functionality in the wind tunnel. Tests If the calculations match the results, further tests are required. Crash tests with dummies verify, for example, whether pedestrian protection is maintained. Only once all tests have been completed and the certificates have been issued do AC Schnitzer aerodynamic components go on sale worldwide. Certificate The parts certificate is an official document that permits the use of tuning parts on public roads under the StVZO (Road Traffic Licensing Regulations) in Germany (and several other countries). After the part described in the certificate has been installed or modified, the vehicle must be presented to an official inspection centre. The inspector will verify the correct installation and authenticity of the part and then enter the modification in the vehicle documents. The vehicle's official operating license thus remains valid.
