Torque Monsta Buying Guide · Detailed guide
Tyres, Wheels & Spacers
Bring tyre specification, wheel dimensions and spacer choice together as one fitment and safety decision.
Measure first
What to measure or record
Record wheel width/offset, tyre size, load and speed ratings, hub centre-bore/PCD, current arch and suspension clearance, and available stud/bolt engagement. Calculate sidewall height as tyre width × aspect ratio; compare overall diameter before changing size, then physically verify clearance.
Decision guide
Choose by intended use
All-weather road
Prioritise wet grip, temperature range, noise and correct load rating.
Summer performance
Stronger dry response with reduced cold/winter ability depending on compound.
Track day
Choose a tyre whose temperature range matches vehicle mass, session length and conditions.
Spacers
Use only the measured thickness required, quality hub-centric design where applicable and the correct longer hardware/engagement.
Understand what you are buying
Key terms explained simply
Tyre size
Width/aspect ratio/rim diameter, such as 225/40 R18.
Load index
Maximum approved load code.
Speed rating
Tested speed category and construction requirement.
Rim range
Approved wheel-width range for a tyre.
Hub-centric spacer
Locates concentrically where hub design allows.
Thread engagement
Usable fixing engagement after wheel and spacer installation.
Begin with the tyre
Select a tyre for climate, road or track use, vehicle weight and load rating. Grip, wet performance, temperature range, noise and wear are all trade-offs.
Match tyre and rim
Use an approved tyre-width range for the wheel. Stretching or pinching a tyre changes its profile and may reduce protection, consistency and clearance.
Spacer selection
Use the smallest quality spacer needed to solve a verified clearance or stance requirement. Confirm hub location, stud or bolt engagement and whether longer hardware is required.
Final checks
Test lock-to-lock steering and suspension clearance, then torque hardware correctly. Recheck after initial use and inspect regularly where the vehicle sees hard road or track use.
Straight answers
Frequently asked buyer questions
How is sidewall calculated?
Multiply nominal width by aspect ratio. A 225/40 has a nominal 90 mm sidewall. Real dimensions vary by tyre model.
How close should rolling diameter stay?
Follow vehicle guidance and account for speedometer, gearing, ABS and clearance. Calculator results are estimates.
Can I stretch a tyre?
Stay within the tyre makers approved rim-width range. Appearance does not override bead security, load and handling.
Are spacers safe?
Quality application-correct spacers can be safe with correct hub location, hardware, engagement, torque and inspection. Use only the thickness needed.
Why does it rub with passengers?
Load compresses suspension. Verify clearance at realistic weight and through travel.
